Thursday in detail

1.Morning

The boys are usually up around 6 AM.

BreakfastWhat to feed them

  • Wyatt: apple oatmeal (he doesn't like the brown sugar kind, apple is key). 2 packets in a bowl with hot water from the kettle. Give him a spoon, he takes it from there.
  • Ashton: a frozen waffle from the downstairs freezer, OR an open-faced peanut butter and strawberry jam sandwich (bread, peanut butter, jam on top, do not toast the bread). Ask him what he wants and he'll tell you.

Wyatt's bagHe has swim today

  • Lunch is mostly built in the fridge. Add an ice pack, his snacks, and a fork to the lunchbox.
  • Heat his hot food in the microwave and put it in his thermos. The thermos goes in his backpack, NOT in his lunchbox.
  • Put the lunchbox in his backpack.
  • He wears swimsuit and swim shirt under sweatpants (it'll be cool).
  • His backpack has a waterproof bag inside with his change of clothes, goggles, and a towel (Jeff is setting this up today). Wyatt knows what to do with it.
  • Water bottle in the side pocket.

Ashton's bagKeep it simple

  • Regular weather-appropriate clothes. Not sure if they'll be outside today.
  • He wears Crocs with socks (worn on his feet, not packed). He changes into indoor shoes at school.
  • The only thing in his bag is his water bottle on the side.
  • No food needed. Montessori provides it.
Leave between 8:20 and 8:25 AM. Wyatt first, then Ashton.

2.Drop-off: Wyatt at YMCA

  1. Navigate to the address. That spot is the building right next door to the actual drop-off entrance, which is on Ferris Place.
  2. Pull in on the right side.
  3. Get Wyatt out with his backpack.
  4. Bring him to the gate by the fence, where Miss Kristen (his teacher) will check him in.
If it's raining or they're not outside (and it's after 8:30, the earliest drop-off): bring him to the door instead and staff will check him in.
If somehow it's after 9 AM: park the car and use the main entrance on Clark Street (the swim lessons entrance). Wyatt knows where this entrance is, just follow him. Tell staff it's after 9 and you need to drop Wyatt off for morning kindergarten.

3.Drop-off: Ashton at Montessori

  1. Park in their lot or on the street.
  2. Door code: 3374#, then open the door.
  3. Bring Ashton to his cubby.
  4. Change shoes (Crocs to indoor).
  5. Hang up his water bottle and backpack.
  6. Take off his sweatshirt if he has one on.
  7. No paperwork to sign.
Hand him off quickly. He'll probably be shy and apprehensive. Teachers will help redirect him. Don't prolong the goodbye. Just "bye Ashton" and go. Drawing it out makes it worse.

4.Afternoon Pickups

Ashton from Montessori

  • Pick up any time, but Jeff usually grabs him around 5 PM. Earlier is fine.
  • Door code 3374#.
  • Grab him, change his shoes back to outdoor (Crocs), make sure he has water bottle and backpack.
  • No check-out paperwork.

Wyatt from Lincoln School

  • Timing: Right after you grab Ashton, head straight to Lincoln. He has to be picked up by 6 PM, but Jeff typically aims for 5:20-5:30.
  • Bring your photo ID. They already know you're picking him up.
Cell service outside the school is bad. Call BEFORE you get to the school: 908-789-4500 ext. 7771
Say: "Hey, it's Wyatt's grandmother Jane, here to pick him up."

Two scenarios:

  • Nice weather: he'll be at the playground. Walk over, show ID, grab him.
  • Bad weather / inside: drive around to the door on the opposite side of the building from the playground. You should have already called ahead.

5.Evening

  • Mac and cheese with meat (mac and cheese is in the pantry, check downstairs if it's not upstairs)

  • Pop in a Yoto card (Jeff will set them out). Wyatt knows how to operate it.
  • Monitor will be set up in the basement so you can listen from down there.
  • Wyatt knows to come down to the basement if he needs anything.

Friday in detail

  • Ashton: nothing needed (Montessori provides food). Just his water bottle on the side of his bag.
Same drop-off routine as Thursday. Wyatt at YMCA first, then Ashton at Montessori.

2.Afternoon

Pick up Ashton at 3 PM

  • Leave the house around 2:45.
  • Door code 3374#, walk to his classroom. He's usually finishing snack. They'll say "Ashton, time to go" and he'll run over.
  • Grab water bottle, backpack, change shoes.
  • Also grab his brown sleep sack to bring home for washing.
Kim is landing between 3 and 4 PM Friday and should be home by Wyatt's pickup time. You'll probably only need to handle Ashton. Coordinate with Kim about whether you grab her or she Ubers home (her company pays).

3.Friday Soccer only if Kim is delayed

Soccer is 5:45-6:30 PM at:

  • Jeff will leave Wyatt's soccer bag packed: cleats, shin guards, jersey, shorts.
  • Aim to pick up Wyatt from Lincoln by 5:30 PM. Same Lincoln process: call ahead with extension 7771, bring your photo ID.
  • Drive to Houlihan, park in the lot. Wyatt knows where to go.
  • Hang out during practice. Bring Ashton's water and a couple monster trucks for him.
  • After: ice cream truck is there. Buy them ice cream if you want.
  • Head home.

v.House & Care

  • Car seats: already installed in your car.
  • Garage code: 8282 then ENTER (outside keypad).
  • Waffles: downstairs freezer.
  • Yoto cards: Jeff will leave them out.
  • Monitor: Jeff will set it up in the basement.
  • TV / movies: fine to let them watch. Wyatt knows how to run the TV.
  • Gaming system (downstairs): also fine. Wyatt can operate it.
  • Kids' Motrin: cupboard by the coffee mugs. 10 mL if either boy needs it.
